DEL Graduates attend Showcase event ..
The Minister for Employment and Learning Sir Reg Empey attended a showcasing event at the offices of DEL, along with 8 Graduate Interns based in West Belfast and 32 others working in North, South, East and Greater Shankill. The event was to promote the work the interns have been doing in various community based organisations throughout the city and to highlight the benefits of the 26 week intern programme run by DEL in connection with the 5 Belfast Area Partnerships. The intern programme has given graduates from various professions the chance to gain invaluable experience at a time when many students are coming out of University with very few job opportunities available. The interns praised the programme and invited the Minister and the Department to support it’s continuation.

Aisling Bursary ..
The Aisling Bursaries are designed to help students defray their education and training costs. All applications are considered, with special consideration given to candidates who have significant barriers preventing them from realising their full potential through education, for example economic or family circumstances. The Aisling Bursary Initiative also highlights the importance the business community attaches to education in developing West Belfast.
Creative Industries ..
The creative industries are emerging as one of the fastest growing and increasingly important sectors of the economy. The most recent estimates indicate that there are over 2,500 creative enterprises in Northern Ireland, employing some 34,600 people. The sector is a disparate one, ranging from television to crafts, advertising to architecture and music to fashion design. The common thread is that the activities they pursue have their origin in individual creativity, skill and talent.
Easter School 2010
This 12th Annual Maths GCSE Easter School was held in St Mary’s University College for the 12th Year. There were a 193 students attending this years Easter School from 13 schools across Belfast. A total of 14 teaching staff and 13 support staff worked on the programme which ran from 10am to 2.30 Tuesday to Friday inclusive.
The students who attended the school were studying GCSE Maths which is offered on two levels (Higher and Foundation) by 3 examination boards (CCEA, AQA and EDEXCEL) in 2 different formats; Modular and Linear. The students were divided into 14 classes, and students grouped according to level and ability and not school or board, this is a challenge in terms of teaching but evaluation has shown that this is more successful.
